The Basics of Motorcycle Camping Gear

If you are a biker, and you likes to move around then motorcycle camping gear will be a great option for you. As you probably already know, traveling via motorcycle is an amazing experience. What can be even more amazing is to travel longer distances on your hog and camp out under the wide open sky. Motorcycle camping is a bit different than other types of camping. For one, you're getting where you need to go via bike, not on foot or by car. One of the first things to know about this type of camping is pack only what you need.

Some necessary things you should carry with you for you and your motocycle. Saddlebags is one such necessarty accessory for your motorcycle, in which you can store some of your items. You will also need another bag such as a duffel bag. What you will need to bring with you will depend on where you are going and for how long. Different climates and terrains require different equipment. Camping alone in the wild will require more supplies for safety than you'll need if you are heading to a crowded campground full of other people. There are some basics that you will want to pack no matter where you are going.

Once you are ready with your motorcycle, water and food are next immediate things you should carry with you. You will also need a change or two of clothing, a compass, a Swiss Army knife, matches, a sleeping bag and/or cot, featherweight portable tent, money and coins, a first aid kit, toilet paper, rain gear, a map, and trash bags for disposing of any waste items. If you will be requiring toiletries be sure to pack travel size items like hotel sized bottles of shampoo, toothpaste and soap. It's a good idea to make a detailed list and check it twice before embarking on your journey.

If you are traveling in a group, then you should carry accessories convinient for all bikers. If you're biking alone, try inquiring at your local bike shop. Many of the employees at these shops have ample experience traveling via motorcycle and can give you lots of great tips. They might also be able to recommend (and sell you) some cool equipment that is perfect for a motorcycle camping journey. Thanks to the renewed popularity of motorcycles, there is at least one shop in most cities and towns. You might feel a bit nervous before taking off on your first trip, but once you embark you're sure to get hooked on the freedom and beauty that you'll enjoy along the way!
